FM 2013 Video: Introducing Football Manager Classic

Football Manager Classic is one of the new game modes that we will enjoy in FM 2013, and there will be a series of five videos explaining what it’s all about. All the five videos will be added to this post as soon as they become available.

What is FM Classic? Introduction

Miles Jacobson says the new game mode has the same database as the full game mode and the same match engine, but it’s designed to provide a quicker game play experience. Basically it’s Football Manager for very busy people. The game world will be smaller, details are kept to a minimum and there is no individual training for your players. Interaction with staff, board and media are also kept to a minimum while the match highlights can only be viewed in «key highlights» mode.

You can even simulate a match without having to play it, providing a match plan for your staff beforehand. In theory, you could go through a whole season in at most 10 hours of game play.

Here’s the first FM Classic Video:

FM Classic Episode 2 — Pre-Match

A quick look at the pre-match options in FM Classic, the quick mode to play Football Manager 2013.

FM Classic Episode 3 — Match Day

A look at match day experience in FM Classic, including what you can do when selecting to skip the match highlights and get an instant result:

FM Classic Episode 4 — Challenges

The challenges will be played only in FM Classic mode and most of them take half a season. There will be 4 free challenges and 1 paid challenge for now but more will be added upon request from the FM 2013 fans. Here’s the video:

FM Classic Episode 5 — Unlockables

The final FM Classic episode is about the unlockables that you can find in FM 2013, there are 12 of them. Some of them can be unlocked through your performances in the game, others can be bought for cash. Watch the video to find out what they are about:

I will be sticking to the normal mode myself but I think this was a genius move, sales may hit record figures because of this mode. Its a shame you have to play challenge mode though this way though

Well, I don’t think that features like individual training would help you in a challenge since those might cover just a few months of game time. But we don’t have all the details yet, have to wait and see.

3 videos in and my opinion has changed slightly, I may just try it for a bit of quick fun. Was it just me or was Miles looking green with envy? :)

Agree with Saltwater, I think this is a fantastic idea and FMC will certainly open the door to many other gamers that may otherwise not buy the game. Like everyone else I may keep tp the full version but could have the odd network game going in this mode to hurry things along.

I think i will start with FMC during to find a suitable team and nation to play in.

I might try it out during the time I have access to the beta, but when it comes to my proper game I’ll use the full mode.

This is tempting, but I`ll just let the full game ruin my GCSEs instead of this half ruining them

Well, school comes first in my view, so you might want to try FM Classic this time :P

This is definitely worth to try, but just wondering, if we save the game on FMC, will it be compatible with the normal version?

I’m not so excited about this «downgraded» version, unlockables and paid content could be a step in the wrong direction for the franchise; I’ll have a closer look at it during the beta weeks.

As long as they keep the full version I see no harm.

Time will tell, surely developing two different game modes will drain resources from the main game and its core: the match engine.

I don’t think that they took resources away from the match engine in order to develop FM Classic simply because stripping some of the features off the main game mode in order to make a new one shouldn’t really require too much work. Secondly, there might be different teams for UI and match engine anyway.

As I said we just need to wait and see, if for example the beloved corner exploit or the three strikers bug will still be here, it would be a proof of what I said before.

It won’t be if they have improved other areas of the match engine, but I see where you are coming from.

I think this classic mode can actually add some features to make the normal mode a bit faster, I mean, somethings are just too complicated for no reason.

FMC looks a really great addition although I’m not keen on paying for add-ons.

Has there been any indication of FMC working with the data editor?

    • Johnny Karp

      5 октября, 2012 at 15:35

I don’t see why it shouldn’t be working, FMC uses the same database as the full game.

Love it how in the recent video about addons, Miles mentions been asked to use a different word to ‘cheating’ when talking about the addons, yet he still uses it anyway :) Good lad! I hope that means that the FM Classic saves won’t count towards the overall leaderboard as that would be unfair for those of us that aren’t interested in the addons.

    the g +1 buttons don`t seem to be working…

    • Johnny Karp

Yeah, it seems you are right. I’m not sure what the problem is but I’ll try to figure it out.

I think it’s sorted now, let me know if you have any problems with it.
