Stadio Olimpico is set to host a thrilling Serie A encounter between Lazio and Napoli, two of the league's top teams. Lazio comes into this match on a four-game winning streak in the league, although they suffered a 0-3 loss to Inter in the Super Cup. Luis Alberto is expected to make a return to the starting lineup, but both Ciro Immobile and Mattia Zaccagni will be unavailable due to suspension. Pedro is likely to lead the attack in Immobile's absence.

Meanwhile, Napoli faced a heartbreaking defeat in the Super Cup final against Inter, with the winning goal coming in stoppage time courtesy of Lautaro Martinez. With Victor Osimhen away on international duty, Napoli will be without a key attacker. As a result, Lazio appears to be the favorable choice this time around. Zambo Anguissa is also unavailable due to international duty, while Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is suspended. Additionally, Jens Cajuste is banned, and both Alex Meret and Natan Souza are sidelined with injuries.

Lazio

Laziale's previous match could be described as one of the worst for Maurizio Sarri's team this season. In the semi-finals of the Super Cup, the Biancocelesti were dismantled by Inter in all respects. Lazio conceded three unanswered goals, and could have conceded more - the opponents had not yet converted several profitable chances.

In the championship, the Romans won in the previous round, defeating Lecce (1:0) on their home field. This success was the fourth in a row for Lazio in Serie A. Thanks to such a successful period, the capital team has already reached sixth place in the standings and is currently only one point behind the first four.

Napоli

The Neapolitans also lost to Inter, but in the Super Cup final – 0:1. Prior to this, in the semi-final match, Walter Mazzarri’s team defeated Fiorentina - 3:0. For the Neapolitans, this match, on the contrary, became one of the best of the season.

In Serie A, Napoli are only in ninth place, despite winning the last game. On their own field, the “southerners” only in the end put the finishing touches on the last team of the championship, “Salernitana”. 2:1 – Amir Rahmani scored the winning goal on 90+6.

Glorious Tale of Two Italian Soccer Giants: Lazio and Napoli

In the heart of Italy lives two of country's most historic soccer clubs - S.S. Lazio and S.S.C. Napoli. With both teams boasting a rich history and a passionate fan base, their stories are an integral part of not just Italian, but world soccer history.

Origins of S.S. Lazio

Founded in 1900, S.S. Lazio is one of the oldest clubs in Italian football. Having weathered the political turbulence of the early 20th century, the club has rooted its identity deeply within the city of Rome. The majority of early club members came from a rowing club, thus blue and white - the traditional colors of Greek sports - were adopted as the team colors, while the eagle was chosen as their emblem, symbolizing imperial grandeur.

Lazio's Golden Era

The golden era of Lazio is highly recognized as the late 90s to early 2000s. Under the management of Sven-Göran Eriksson, Lazio attained the pinnacle of their success. The team, studded with stars like Alessandro Nesta, Pavel Nedvěd, and Simone Inzaghi, clinched the Serie A title in the 1999–2000 season, and won the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1999.

Birth of S.S.C. Napoli

Moving further south to the beautiful city of Naples, resides another Italian soccer heavyweight - S.S.C. Napoli. Established in 1926, the club has a deep connection with its city and fans, who are known for their intense passion for the game.

Napoli's Era of Dominance

Interestingly, Napoli's greatest achievements are also marked by an era led by one footballing titan - Diego Maradona. The outrageous Argentine, widely considered one of the greatest players of all time, led Napoli to the height of Italian and European soccer. Under Maradona's leadership, the club won its first Serie A titles in 1987 and 1990, along with the UEFA Cup in 1989.

Lazio vs Napoli: The Rivalry

Lazio and Napoli, both being from southern Italy, have had intense matches and rivalries over the years. They’ve battled enormously on the football pitch, creating a riveting spectacle for fans and neutrals alike. Be it in domestic leagues or in European competitions, their rivalry has been nothing short of iconic.

Looking Forward

Both clubs have laid the groundwork for success throughout their storied histories. As of 2021, they both continue to uphold their rich footballing tradition, remaining competitive in domestic and international circuits. Their impact goes beyond trophies and win-rates. For a true fan, their history is more about the players who graced the pitch, the iconic moments they've witnessed, and the passion that reverberates through the stadiums every match day.

Wrapping Up

In conclusion, Lazio and Napoli are not just some ordinary football clubs. They are symbols of Italian culture and pride, representing artistry on the pitch and passion on the stands; the two fundamental elements of football. Their history is embedded in Italian football's roots and their legacy undoubtedly will continue for generations to come, engraving new chapters of glory and passion.
