Football Manager 2013 New Features Video: Leaderboards

Another new Football Manager 2013 feature was introduced today through Miles Jacobson’s video blog: leaderboards. This doesn’t replace the good old Hall of Fame, but it does add a new dimension to the game: you will be able to compare your achievements in the game to every other FM 2013 player in the whole wide world!

Here’s a quick recap of this new feature:

  • separate leaderboards for each game mode (full career, FM Classic, challenges).
  • separate leaderboards for nations/divisions.
  • sophisticated scoring system that takes into account trophies, goals scored, but also the initial reputation of the club that you achieved those results with.
  • fully integrated with Steam, you will be able to compare your score to those of your Steam friends.
  • manager wages count towards the points you earn, so now there’s a point in negotiating a higher salary with your club.

Here’s Miles telling you all about this:

And now a quick recap of the previous episodes and the new Football Manager 2013 features that were announced:

FM 2013 Network Game Mode

  • much easier to set up, network games will run through the powerful Steam servers.
  • you have the possibility to export your team from single player mode into a network game. This way you can play against one of your friends regardless of which season your team is playing in the single player mode. For instance, I could play with Viitorul Constanta against Darren’s Scarborough or Kevin’s Toronto FC!
  • agree on match view settings before the actual game, which avoids having the two players having different settings.

FM 2013 Match Engine

  • New physics engine, which allows more realistic ball trajectories. The ball is now affected by pitch conditions and weather.
  • Player bodies are more realistic.
  • AI (Artificial Intelligence) more realistic.
  • New cameras and the possibility to zoom in and out.
  • Increased stadium details.

FM 2013 Match Day Experience

  • live feed of suggestions and updates during the match in a single, customizable, panel, instead of multiple panels like in FM 2012
  • quicker in-game substitutions
  • animated action bar and match info bar during the match
  • easier access to camera selection and match speed settings
Remember that if you want to buy the game, which you should, you can do that at a reduced price from our Games Store: just 27 pounds! If you buy a legal copy of the game that means you support the guys who make the game, and if you buying it from us it means that you support this website that has served you pretty well for a few years now.

Well, if you look at the stories on our forum, I think we’ll dominate the top 100 :)

Err.. you don’t have to purchase anything else apart from, well, a computer. But I assume you already have one.

Do you reckon he’s mixing FM up with the Sims? :)

Actually there are unlockables you can purchase or get by ingame achievements.

He said ‘have to buy’ not ‘can buy’, you don’t have to buy anything in the new game it is all fully playable without ad dons. What you are mentioning is such a minor thing that anyone moaning about it is a little sad in my opinion…If anyone really wants to cheat why would you pay for it? Its easily done in the editor and through other tools unfortunately.

Very nice feature, I just hope it isn’t dominated by cheats and fakes as that would be a major shame and waste of SI’s brilliant work. Looks like I’ll have to start in the lowest division possible again :)

Actually I assume that you keep tallying up the points no matter how far you go through a season, and I can’t see cheats carrying on for that long so the true players will probably get to the top eventually.

        13 сентября, 2012 at 17:37

I agree, players who go through more seasons should have the most points.

What does he mean by purchase extra features?

      I really don’t know.

I think he means the unlockable things available in the FM Classic mode, such as the all year round transfer window and no work permit issues. Who wants to spend money on those anyhow?

Sry all FM fans out there, but i cant see it any other way than that this 2013 version of the game has solely been about developing the companionship with Steam.. which is sad. But hey, there’s always 2014 to look forward to ;)

«Solely»? Are you serious? How about the match engine then? Anyway, developing the Steam integration does have a great side, like the massively improved network game mode.

There’s two ways of looking at it, the guy with the fake name is a bad way, but the other is that SI are using steam to make the game better…offering a way for us to compare and also play against each other with ease, hmmm certainly seems like a bonus to me. I honestly can’t believe people can find a negative this year, especially with two features that are going to make the game so much better, it shocks me. Besides, they’ve added more game modes as well as tonnes of new features so I honestly can’t understand where you even begin to formulate an argument for that comment Mr Fake Name.

I guess some people get a kick out of moaning about nothing.

P.S. Its not that we don’t welcome criticism of the game, but outrageous comments with no backbone that slate the game and SI for no real reason will receive the response they deserve. These guys put more effort into the game then any other games developers I know so they deserve to be defended.

Hey at ease soldier. All im saying is that its not what i expected or hoped for..Concerning the 3d engine im not enthused at all, rather i see it as a natural development and something i take for granted due to such a well established developer as SI would and should deliver, not «brag» about.

I see it as its exactly as u mention it Johnny K; the network appliances that SI shouldve promoted being their aim with this years version.

thirdly i know i mightve come off strong and in a very negative way about the developer which im really not. I have high hopes indeed, although i rather had my hopes put on hold for another year thats all :)

          @ Darren.

Yes i know i shouldve phrased or chosen my words more careful but hey, just all put in a weak moment of dissapointment thats all. Along with many of u others around here (and other forums) ive tried very hard expressing my point of view and wishes when it comes to «the next steps» of development. And i have been waiting so very eagerly for the next paradigmshift to take place, as of when they introduced the 3d engine the first time for example. And ofc i can imagine the research team being working very hard on every new possible angle to put forth this game in the future..just havent come as far as i hoped for.

And «non taken» on your sarcastic and patronizing remark on my nick..

          Yours sincerly
          /Karl

Thats fair enough mate, why not phrase it that way from the start though? Either way, we all have an opinion and when you express yours just expect others to do the same and depending on how strongly your opinion is expressed and in what manner will determine the reply. People wanting more from the game is something I can understand, but I just don’t like it when everything else is dismissed like SI have sat on their asses all year.

As for the name thing, I just find it hilarious how people typing negative comments always hide their true identity, we have problems with it all the time, now that’s not me suggesting that you were doing the same…so apologies for the sarcasm, though I don’t see how that could be classed as patronizing you, I think you are just trying to put a bad slur on it there.

The new game has around 900 new features. I still don’t see why one might think that the network side was the main aim this year. As for the match engine, I agree that we all expect that every year but I don’t take it for granted, a lot of work goes into that. Last but not least, give me an example of a major feature that you wanted and is not included in FM 2013. By the way, we don’t even know all the new features yet…

«Leaderboards» ..pfft, gimme a break.. How high up the faithful participators compiled wishlist did that one end up???

      • Darren Smith

        13 сентября, 2012 at 22:08

And that is your only argument, have you not seen the other videos or read about the other features…the leaderboards is one minor perk compared to everything else. Seriously, do some research and read about all the new additions and features, you are picking at hairs mate.

Did anybody observed that when you sign the contract with the club you choose some clauses called philosophies ( min 1:34 ) ;). They are very interesting and I am excited to see how they affect the game. :)

    • DodgySoze

      13 сентября, 2012 at 22:37

Aye Victor, agree with u there indeed.
Being able to put up more detailed expectations is very welcomed. And as u say, lets hope it effects your managing in a profound way :)

We’ll probably know more about that in a future episode of the video blog, there are quite a few to come (at least 20 as far as I know).

Very glad to see your wage as manager counts towards your points! I found the fact that there was no point to earning money in the game quite dumb. You were better off before to work for as low of a salary as you could to make you team financial picture look good.

Leaderboards should encourage more healthy competition, and as for wages are we all going to demand huge pay rises every time we renew? (we’ll start setting a bad example for the players to follow :P)
