FM 2014 Regen Dates: Youth Intake Tips

FM 2014 Guide

Hey guys, just a couple of quick tips today on FM 2014 youth intake and the Football Manager 2014 regen dates. Every year I try and find the best new players that FM has generated, those 15 year old wonderkids that can make my save so much more personal.

Last year I noted down every date and tried to make a mental note to check each country for new intake at the appropriate time. But us managers are very busy and I kept missing some very important dates, including Brazil, which led to me missing out on a couple of very promising prospects. Well I’ve made a system to stop all this agony and make my life a hell of a lot easier…rather then check the FM 2014 regen dates manually, I ask FM to remind me! Let me break it down.

FM 2014 Regen Dates — Key Countries

I could spout out every single regen date in FM 2014, but there’s already plenty of lists online and we don’t like to repeat others hard work. So instead below are the countries I like to check for regens, whether it be when I’m bored out of my face or as a ritual.

8th March — Croatia, France, Germany, Greece, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Switzerland, Turkey and Wales

13th March — England

18th March — Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Italy, Poland, Portugal

25th March — Holland

28th March — Spain

2nd April — Argentina & South Africa

27th August — Japan

20th September — Brazil

I tend to scout through all the top clubs in England, Brazil and Argentina every season if I am a top team…when managing in the lower leagues it depends on how far our scouting stretches, but Wales, Scotland and Ireland can be very handy to check for talent, as well as the clubs around you and in lower divisions.

FM 2014 Regen Dates — How To Set Reminders

Each regen is a ticking time bomb, any wonderkid worth his salt will be offered a contract by his club within days of his intake date. For most that means a hefty transfer fee, but if you can get ahead of the trend and find these regens before their club has a chance to offer them a contract, you’ll just pay a compensation fee as the ‘approach to sign’ option is available.

With this in mind, missing key youth intake dates could be a disaster. To avoid this I simply set reminders on my calender, so that a news item appears in my inbox to remind me when each country has their youth intake, I strongly recommend doing this as below.

Step 1 — Go to your notes or notebook.

Regen notes, find notes page

Step 2 — Start adding new notes.

Regen notes, add notes

Step 3 — Write the appropriate country or countries as the title, remember you need to make a new note for every date you want to set as a reminder.

Regen notes, write countries

Step 4 — Now set the date at which this country will receive youth intake. Make sure you set the recurrence to ‘every year’ and click confirm.

Regen notes, set date

Step 5 — That note will appear as a reminder on the specified day, every year, within your inbox and you’ll never miss FM 2014 youth intake again.

Regen notes, appears in news

Step 6 — When you see a reminder check the top clubs in the countries that have new youth and get signing!

FM 2014 Regen Dates — Where To Look

I have already listed and written about my preferred countries to check for youth intake, so lets see how I search through this endless list. One option is to view the youth teams of these clubs with ‘general information’ showing, so I can filter the list by age therefore bringing the new recruits to the top. After a while you’ll get a feel for what ‘values’ indicate a good regen from a bad one.

Another option is to go to the transfers section and view intake from there. To do this simply click the arrow to the left of your ‘search’ icon in the top right, from the drop down hover over ‘transfers’ and select the continent of the country you want to check. From here select ‘youth intake’ from the drop down box next to ‘transfers’. This should bring up the players that have just been generated in that month. I usually just hover over the ‘i’ icon next to each player to see a glimpse of their attributes.

All very simple really and you only need to set these reminders for the countries you really don’t want to miss. This needs to be done on a save by save basis, but I think its well worth a shot and a few minutes of your time. Hope this helps and if you have any tips, just leave them in the comments below.

I already did these but I’m pretty sure not everyone does so thanks for it anyways. Interesting you should mention the Irish regens… I’m in the Championship currently with Pompey and got some amazing regens who were signed from Shamrock Rovers, they really could be great.

Yeah its a pretty simple idea but I do think a lot of players just don’t bother…though its worthwhile in my opinion.

It’s something I’ve always done but for the last 2 editions the repeat yearly option doesn’t work properly in my game. It cimes up a day or two late which is very annoying as the player might have signed on with his own club by the time I’m notified. Also the Brazilian regen date is still Sept 20 in my game. I’ve seen numerous people say it’s Sept 9th or something but it’s still the 20th unless it’s just my game ;)

You’re right about Brazil, just noticed that mistake myself so I’ve adjusted it. As for the reminder I haven’t noticed the issue myself but will keep an out for it, frustrating if that is the case.

The problem is that each year the date gets put back one day (so march 8th first year becomes March 9th next), so I just made a new reminder set to go off during off season to check and fix reminder dates

I’ve made notes for a few, but generally I just check up frequently on the ‘youth intake’ page, and scout them all. I really think people need to check out Japan. Kashima Antlers (I think if you are using the name fix from this site they might be called Okayama FC) always make amazing regens, without fail, every year. On last years game nearly all Japanese internationals started off there, and many of them are world class. This year seems to be no different.

Thats interesting, is that with Japan loaded as playable though?

No funnily enough. I’ll get some screenshots of players from their academy that have become good on FM13 and this years one, because for me at least it seems at worst they create one top player a year.

Thanks for the tip, just checked an sure enough there’s one good regen moving to PSG from there in my save. I’ve added Japan to my list :)

The only problem I ever have with regens is always buying too many, and ending up with a squad packed full of useless 19 year olds…

What kind of values are you going for? I’m playing a career with man u and im looking at the most valuable ones but they all want ridiculous contracts and they want to be rotation for the first team, how do you deal with that!?

    • Darren Smith

      16 декабря, 2013 at 08:29

If by values you mean the players actual value it varies completely from country to country. I just look through the new regens in each club and scout the ones I think could have potential. Haven’t across the issue of them wanting to be rotated yet though. I guess you either have to rotate them or risk them getting unhappy.

      • Leon

        16 декабря, 2013 at 17:33

fair enough, i’m finding any 15 yr old with a value around 1 mil wants to be thrown straight into the first team. the only solution i can think would be to continuously loan them out

        • Darren Smith

          16 декабря, 2013 at 18:21

I don’t think loaning them is the solution, they wouldn’t take well to that…if a player is asking for first team football they want it in your team not another, I have suffered from that mistake before.

            17 декабря, 2013 at 11:00

ah thats frustrating, i tried giving one a contract just to see how it went and it turns out that he’s on a youth contract till 16 when he expects to be rotation. still going to try and loan him out till he’s ready though. i really enjoy bringing through a team full of home grown players after a few seasons

good job assembling all the dates, darren.
however, i’dl like to share my opinion on this, if i may. i think we’ve played the game to a point in which we are able to crack it, and use the boundaries of the simulation in our favor. Remember in the early 00’s someone found out that it was possible to generate money by selling a player and adding a % of next sale clause and then biding for him only to pay less than what you’ve earned? i guess it falls into the same category.
if you get to know the dates and start searching for the gems the game produces it kind of gets you out of the realism that the game strives so hard to keep, since those dates are only a way the developers found to give continuity to the game, and don’t have anything to do with reality.
so, i assign many scouts to certain areas in which i know quality will pop out through the year and if they find those youngsters i certainly will snap them, but if now, well.. my scouting network wasn’t good enough.

of course, this is not the truth, it is only my opinion and i’d like to share it with you, who i admire for your management skills.

    cheers

While your opinion is valid and what you say is true there are many, many things that we ALL do in game that would be classed as impossible in real life and certain AI habits we all learn and exploit that couldn’t be done in real life, so this is just one example of many, the game will never be truly realistic because it is a game and based on a CPU that can’t be unpredictable 100% of the time.

I tried to do this for the first time and scanned the youth intake page on transfers on 8th march for france, germany etc.. Sure enough there were players there but all had been already contracted to clubs.. Any advice on how to find them before they have been tied up ?

    • Darren Smith

      20 декабря, 2013 at 08:51

When you say already contracted, every player will be contracted to an extent, but they shouldn’t have a ‘pre-contract’ agreed yet. Basically they should have the little icon next to their name like this ‘yth’. And you should have the option to ‘approach to sign’, but you’ll always have to pay compensation.

Hi Darren. Thanks for this post. This adds a dimension to ‘scouting’ that I did not realise was there before and should really enhance the game-play. However I have checked the first few dates and no players have come up. Does this have to do with how large a database I’m running or do you have to load the specific nation to see the regens (playable or not)?

    • Darren Smith

      20 декабря, 2013 at 08:53

It could do, I always load a large database and with that every club (in Europe anyway) has at least one youth player intake.

Maybe a bit off topic (just scouting in general) however I’d like to know whether anyone is experiencing a problem when scouting regions….

I’ve been assigning my scouts to regions, with roaming ticked, but it seems that they will only scout two nations in that region, and will just go back and forth between those two, never more. For example, I have 2 scouts scouting the UK and Ireland region, but both are only scouting Engalnd and Scotland, over and over. Never Wales, Ireland or Northern Ireland. In East Asia, it’s South Korea and Japan. South America it’s Brazil and Argentina, and Oceania is Australia and New Zealand etc…

I’m currently Arsenal in my save so there is no scouting restrictions..

I would appreciate it if anyone is experiencing the same problem and could shed some light on a solution..

    Thank you

I can’t say for sure as I haven’t been looking for it, but I think the same has happened to me.

      • Paul

        20 декабря, 2013 at 19:36

How are you getting around the problem? For instance in South America are you missing out on players from other countries such as Chile, Columbia etc? As the scouts will only concentrate on Brazil and Argentina…

I’ve even sent scouts just using the nation instead of region (eg. Instead of South America just Chile) and still they are finding no players whatsoever. I’ve never experienced this on previous versions of the game..

I’m not sure whether this is a bug or I’m completely missing something?

        Thank you

        • Darren Smith

          20 декабря, 2013 at 19:49

TBH I only usually ask my scouts to look at one nation at a time. I don’t generally look elsewhere other than Brazil and Argentina in South America for instance.

Hi guys. I have also noticed this. On a separate note, I’m getting slightly annoyed when scouting notes come up in the inbox bringing up players that they have already scouted and giving me the option of adding them to shortlist, even if i have already added them from a previous message. Is it just me or does that seem like bug in the design (or maybe I’m being too picky!)

          • Darren Smith

            21 декабря, 2013 at 19:59

No I must admit it happens to me too and it is very annoying. Not to mention the players that appear in the summary are some of the lesser options the scouts have found…I’m sure its a bug they’ll fix though.

Does the regen date change dates from season to season? EG. Brazil 20th Sept in the first year but is then 21st Sept the next year?? Please help beacuse i looked for Brazil regens on the 20th of sept in 2017 and i could find any at all

    cheers Tom

    • Darren Smith

      7 января, 2014 at 18:56

Not that I’ve noticed no. For instance I’m in 2017 on the 21st of September and Brazil have definitely just had their intake, if the dates moved by one every year it wouldn’t be for a few days yet. Maybe try looking a day later and they should be there. Maybe a daft question but are you sure they are not there, where are you looking and what is appearing?

I do have a theroy that the dates are slightly different in Classical mode, as Im in April 2014, England still haven’t got any youth intakes (well, according to the world list, no one had their youth intake in March :e)

Thanks! Unfourtunately I was a little late getting to Brazil in my Villa Classic Save, but I did sign the Brazillian Ronaldo (I actually made a manager in Chelsea just to see how good his potential was in the higher reputation, 5 stars :e) Unfourtunately, It took an amazing 13m fee rising up to 15m to manage to sign him (Monaco offered loads for my Agbonlahor)

He comes in September. (even though I have transfer windows turned off)

I was going through regens last night and managed to sign a couple of really good players from higher reputation clubs (I’m wolves and got a couple from madrid and ajax) and most players were discussing contracts with me. But my computer crashed and now none of the players will even discuss contracts with me? anyone else had this problem?

    • Darren Smith

      20 апреля, 2014 at 12:36

Can’t say I have though it is very normal for new regens to be selective over moving when they first join a club, you maybe just got lucky the first time or the timing is slightly different.
