Nottingham Forest and Arsenal face each other at the City Ground in the opening match of the Premier League round 22. The Reds head into Tuesday’s match following a goalless FA Cup draw with Bristol City, but preventing Arsenal attackers from finding the net is easier said than done. Fit-again midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White is pushing for a start, while all Moussa Niakhate, Ibrahim Sangare, Cheikhou Kouyate, Ola ro, Serge Aurier, and Willy Boly are on international duty. To make things even worse for the home side, former Man Utd man Anthony Elanga is sidelined with injury.

The Gunners, on the other hand, rolled over Crystal Palace 5-0 in their last league match to keep their title hopes alive. Given the number of absentees in the home team, anything but a routine away win would be a big surprise. The midweek clash comes too early for Mohamed Elneny, who represented Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations, while both Gabriel and Declan Rice should be fit for the match. Takehiro Tomiyasu is on international duty as well.

A Storied Past: Exploring the History of Nottingham Forest and Arsenal Soccer Teams

Founded in the 19th century, Nottingham Forest and Arsenal are two of England's most storied soccer clubs. Their rich history and contribution to the world of football are certainly worth exploration.

The Roots: Nottingham Forest's Beginnings

Nottingham Forest Football Club was founded in 1865, making it one of the ten oldest soccer clubs in England. It was established by a group of shinty players who wanted to give football a try. This marked the beginning of a rich history filled with impressive achievements and notable personalities. Nottingham Forest enjoyed their pinnacle of success in the late 1970s under the legendary Brian Clough. They won the English top-flight championship and two consecutive European Cups, something only a handful of English clubs have achieved.

Nottingham Forest: Era of Change

During the 1980s and 1990s, the club experienced a period of decline, transitioning between the top two divisions. By 1999, they had become an established team in the second tier of English football, known as the Championship, which has continued to the latest data available to us in 2021. Their persistent presence in the Championship showcases their resilience and commitment to the sport.

Arsenal's Humble Beginnings

Arsenal Football Club, on the other hand, was founded in 1886 by a group of workers from the Woolwich Arsenal Armament Factory. Originally named Dial Square, they became the first club from the south of England to join the Football League in 1893. The early 20th century saw Arsenal rapidly rise in stature. With visionary tactics from legendary managers such as Herbert Chapman, they became a fixture in the top flight of English football.

Arsenal's Glorious Era

Arsenal's most successful period came at the dawn of the 21st century with the arrival of French manager Arsene Wenger. Under Wenger, Arsenal played some of the most beautiful and effective soccer in the history of the Premier League, earning the nickname "The Invincibles" for their undefeated 2003-2004 season. By 2021, they boast an impressive trophy cabinet including 13 English top-flight championships and a record 14 FA Cups.
