Swindon Town: August 2010

Welcome readers to the new home of Swindon Town: Pride of Wiltshire. Firstly, I’d like to say thanks to Johnny for being so gracious in allowing me to post directly to his site. I feel very honored especially as I’m somewhat of a newcomer to the blogging world. I’d also like to say thanks to everyone who has posted comments on my «Blogger» page which have all been very positive and encouraging. Although I fear my «gaming skills» will be unable to match those of Johnny’s remarkable performances I do hope that my story will make up for any on the field disappointments. So onto the next chapter of Swindon and thanks for your continuing support.

So onto the next chapter of Swindon and thanks for your continuing support.

With pre-season over and the transfer deals pretty much done it was on to the real business of  life in the Championship and a trip to Watford to start things off. Armed with the new «wingless wonders» formation we took the game to Watford but were unable to break them down and what look to be a stalemate of a game was broken by a Joe Keenan effort late in the second half and we came away with all 3 points.

As usual my Carling Cup jinx repeated yet again and we were knocked out in the first round by Brentford who caught us unorganized after new Spanish DMC Munoz was sent off after two footed tackle. I was livid.

Next up was » M4″ madness week as we were playing motorway rivals  Bristol City and Reading in the space of four days. Both game were hard fought affairs with City taking the lead after a defensive error by centre back Iriekpen who then redeemed himself by slotting home a penalty kick in the second half. Our trip up to Reading played out in similar fashion with Febian Brandy getting the only goal for us but in truth we chased the game the whole time.

The County Ground was full to capacity as we took on Everton who had been relegated from the Premier League. Febian Brandy sent the home fans into dreamland as Swindon took the lead early on but Everton controlled the game for long periods and got the equalizer they deserved. As in our trip to Reading the midfield trio were getting very tired and for the second time in as many games all three had to be taken off before the 65th minute. Perhaps the «wingless wonders» was not wonderful after all?

A trip to Elland Road was on the horizon and in a state of double-mindedness and a fast approaching transfer deadline I snapped up two wingers in the shape of Romain Gasmi and fellow Frenchman Anthony Sichi. We were going to switch to a 4-4-2 formation. What transpired was a resolute performance that secured a point in a goalless  draw but the Swindon faithful were delighted with that and the midfield held there own all through the game and I only had to sub out one of them. We may not be top of the table but overall I felt we made a decent start to what looks like being a tough season ahead.

Bordeaux would be nice Martin, they have a good team and a look into the French league would be quite interesting.

Decent start there Kevin, hopefully you can stay up comfortably and push towards the playoffs. Just one question: Now you are on this site are you going to continue posting on your blog?
Martin- I would say any of Atletico Madrid, Fiorentina and Bordeaux would be interesting and would be a nice but not too difficult challenge.

It’s a great post Kevin and the start in the Championship is not so bad. The new signings will need some time to adapt so I think that your team will be playing better and better. Good luck and thanks for sharing your story here.

Decent start there Kevin, I am glad that you start your post over here. Championship is a difficult league sometimes i think even tougher than premier league, but i think you will do well.
@Martin good luck on your new team and new story.
@mate you have intention to retire in a few years time, though its still early but i do not wish to see that happen. You got a lot of loyal fans here. I hope you will give some serious consideration when the time comes.

Don’t worry mate, the retirement thought is not in my mind right now but it could be in a few years. Until then, let’s enjoy Football Manager!

You can be very proud of that start in the Championship. One that absolutely amazes me, although as I hate them I find funny, is to see Everton playing in the Championship.

Keep up the good work, and hopefully as the team starts to gel, you’ll win more of the matches.
