Evening Chaps and Chapesses,

You know when you're sat at work at 3am in the morning, can't decide on what film to watch, been to a few forums, watched youtube clips of monkeys riding backwards on pigs? Yea that was me 4 nights ago. My mind invariably turns to Football Manager and this particular Wednesday night, I had a spark of inspiration! "I know!" I said aloud which surprised the hell out of my work colleague. "I will manage a mediocre team in Ukraine, make them a git to play against and also try to make them the richest club in the WORLD!" Work colleague has backed away as far as possible from me at this stage and people in the opposite room are wondering what the hell is going on.

Why Ukraine? Dunno

Why use a defensive tactic? Because I can

Why bother?! A very question Sir. For the past couple of years, I have been awful at FM. I resorted to downloading tactics and then holidaying the games to get through the seasons, buy useless players and then get sacked. But not this year, oh no! I am going to use my own tactic, not holiday one day (go me!) and then get sacked totally off my own merit :)

And so my journey begins, I am getting cold sweats about how disasterously wrong this could go but meh let's DO this anyway!

Good, I can go to work tomorrow and tell my colleagues I'm not the only one that rambles what they call rubbish at work ;) Good luck.

Be my guest! I just ramble utter rubbish in general; sometimes it formulates whole sentences too :)

Thanks! I am going for the 'entertainment value' feel because the football management part won't be upto much ;)

Before I get started, I checked to see what the weather was like in Ukraine at this time of year and this is what my internet search come back with

Posted Image

Whoah, wait a minute! I didn't know smoke was a form of weather?! What have I let myself in for?!

Anyway, back to business. These are the leagues I have loaded up.

Posted Image

As you can see, I have mainly gone for the Soviet block countries but all in view-only to keep my computers performance up.

Next step was to pick a club. I instantly ruled out Shakhtar, Dynamo Kyiv, Dnipro and Metalist; don't want to make it too easy now do we?! Instead, I wanted a club with decent youth facilities and not very high expectations. Ladies and Gentleman, I present you with my new club.....

Posted Image

Metalurg Zapor something or other. Sounds like something you would say after choking in all that smoky weather the Ukrainians are used to :)

They are predicted 15th out of 16 will do me very nicely and very happy with the youth facilities. However, I am MOST impressed with their nickname. I am also very sarcastic :)

So that's the team I have chosen, what of the squads I hear you ask?

Under 19s team

Reasonably pleased with the squad and looks like a few decent youngsters to beat into shape too! Main concern is that I wanted to play a defensive game but they seem to have quite an attacking squad hmmm. To further compound things, I also got this lovely message from the board

Great. Anyone know how to make a defensive tactic with attacking midfielders who will play possession football? Answers on a postcard (On this forum will be easier though)

Hahahaha.. Good lad ;)

As for a defensive tactic, you could go 4-2-1-0-3 and play direct football but I guess that doesn't include attacking mids..
Maybe 4-4-1-1?

Ahh Mr Jake, good to see you're still about too! I don't recognise many names on here anymore!

Turned game off now but will be on it whenever I wake up tomorrow. Will probably have a post up tomorrow with tactical musings whilst pretending to know what i'm talking about :)

I don't think you are that bad! You've been on the forums for several seasons of FM and for anyone with that kind of experience, you can't be too bad at it! Good luck with your challenge!

Thanks for all the messages!

Before I go any further, I will go a little into details about my least favourite subject - me.

I am 32 years old; not long til i'm 33 but I don't like that number so I am going to remain 32 for 2 years instead :) I have been around this website for a while now although not so much last year. In fact, some of you may remember that I used to write on Darren's site before it merged with this one, probably not though! I have been playing CM/FM since 1994 I believe when I used to sneak downstairs early in the morning and play it on my mums' ex-partners computer before they woke up and have been playing it ever since but with less sneaking around :)

In real life, I live in Reading and now live about 20 mins walk from the "Mad Stad" and have supported them all my life. I also support Rangers and get up to Scotland every now and then to watch them play. I am a complete football geek so also support clubs abroad such as Valencia, Schalke, IFK Gothenburg and have recently developed a fascination of Heerenveen! Continuing the geek theme, it is my aim in life to get to all 92 league grounds in England and then venture out into Europe and visit grounds there. Johnny actually written a piece on my main website a couple of years ago about it after a post I done in the forum detailing which grounds I had been to.

Outside of football - not a lot to be honest! I try to get to different sporting events to say I have at least tried them once. The latest being Basketball which was quite good but some of the rules were confusing! I work nightshifts for a certain Swedish telecommunications company that may or may not have the same name as a former England manager. I love to travel which goes nicely with visiting grounds. Last place I went to was Reykjavik which I absolutely loved. Place before that was.......Skegness. I am hoping to get to Moscow early next year but depends on how much damage my wallet takes from Christmas.

Finally, the bit you have all been waiting for - my picture

Good luck with the challenge, looks like you've got a pretty decent squad.
Like the bio btw, nice to see another Berkshire lad on here, I live in Newbury, about 30 minutes from Reading. I've been to the Madjeski once to see Reading vs Chelsea a few years back. By the sounds of it you know football inside out, hopefully this will help you for the challenge.
