I'm looking for all you computer geniuses to help me out here!!

I'm after a new laptop for mostly word processing, gaming and Internet browsing but I don't know what to get!!

Shall I get a Mac or just a really good laptop?

I'm willing to spend up to £1000 for a really good one!!

Please help :)

Samsung Series 9 Laptop is apparently a really decent shout, so I've been told.

Honestly mate, you want to steer clear of Dell/Alienware and for your budget, Apple too.

Try something from Acer or HP, and have a look round a few reviews :)

I recently bought the Lenovo IdeaPad Z570, so far so good: http://www.pcpro.co....vo-ideapad-z570 However if you're willing to pay more, you can look for an upgrade of Z570. Generally the IdeaPad Z series are pretty good, there are a lot of positive reviews on the Internet about them.

I have to agree about the Dell ones too, better stay clear of them. Some of the Acer / Asus are also worth a look on their reviews. Hope that helps mate, cheers.

Whatever equipment I bought from Asus didn't last very long, so I personally don't recommend getting it. Acer may be a better option for the price. And HP of course. I also heard good things about Sony Vaoi, but the price of them is usually steeper than the same spec Acer/HP laptops.

I am actually looking at this at the moment...

http://reviews.cnet....eview-50007336/

It says its good for gaming (perfect for FM ;)) but can still do stuff which will be good for Uni!!

For some reason I'm still drawn to a MAC, not sure why!!

Can it be becouse they are less prone to problems as PC/Windows. So I am told anyway.

Problem computers can you get from any brand. Thats why reviews are so important.

Yeah it may be that, I've never heard anyone who has had MAC have a problem with it, because I want to spend a decent sum of money I need to make sure its the right one, I don't want to waste my money :(

Well, if it's going to be mac I would recommend Macbook Pro instead of Macbook Air. I also got good history with Asus and HP. But not with Acer. But other than that I would go by the reviews. Even "third pick" companys like Asus and Acer can have brilliant computers.

For some reason I can't log in... anyway..

I bought a couple of things from Asus. One was a mobo, broke after 2,5 years and I had problems installing some of the drivers (needed to either reintall them or reboot a couple of times before they started working). Another one was a laptop. Nothing big, medium spec at the time of buying, but it broke 1 month after the warranty had expired.. Seriously?? No more Asus form me. Currently I';m working on an HP laptop. A lot of the things have stopped working over the years.. like the battery system..... But I can still play FM on it! It has been with me for 4 years and been to 2 foreign coutries.. and of course visited a decent portion of my home land as well ;)
