Football Manager 2013 Reviews

With just a few days left before the release of FM 2013 reviews are starting to be published on various gaming websites around the world. I also had a review copy of the game offered by Sports Interactive but I don’t have much else to say other than what I have already mentioned in the Beta version preview. Football Manager 2013 is another step forward for the series, continuing the proud tradition of the best football management simulation ever. So, instead of writing a review myself, I compiled a list of the most important reviews on the world’s best gaming websites.

Football Manager 2013 is another step forward for the series, continuing the proud tradition of the best football management simulation ever. So, instead of writing a review myself, I compiled a list of the most important reviews on the world’s best gaming websites.

All I will say before leaving you to the reviews is that I’d give the game a 9/10 rating, and that point is deducted because of the bugs that still hinder the match engine. However, I still hope that those will be fixed before release date.

Enjoy reading the reviews and maybe buy the game from us after that ;)

Eurogamer (UK) — rating 9/10

«Football Manager offers the most detailed and in-depth management experience ever made, as it does every year. But is that what most of us really want? Each year the full game gets more complex, more will defect to Classic. And if Classic takes off (as I think it will), it can’t be long before it will justify a release in its own right. Will SI continue to invest in the full game if its audience is overtaken by its little sister?»

«Utterly brilliant! As Football Manager goes, this is by far the best yet. It’s the most ambitious of the franchise and the most rewarding. This game is a must get for anyone that is a fan of series. FM12 was a near perfect game; the improvements on this game make this even better than the last. All the updates since FM12 makes this is the most realistic managerial sim to date. There’s a quite a bit to do on FM13 with the additions of the challenge modes.»

«Football Manager is just fantastic. For the hardened football fan everything you could ever want from a recreation of cut throat, stressful, elated, heart breaking football management is here, and there is absolutely no reason why you wouldn’t want to pick up the latest iteration if you’ve been a fan of the series before. Tell the wife/husband to go out with her girls/boys. Hell, pay for it. You and Football Manager are back together and it’s the most beautiful relationship you could ever need. Just don’t tell her/him I said that.»

God is a geek — rating 9/10

«Simply brilliant, it’s just a shame there’s a few underlying problems, such as lack of challenges and the real possibility that die-hard fans may feel alienated by the focus on luring back those who have less time that prevent it from being a milestone in football management simulation. It’s damn close, though.»

The Digital Fix —  rating 9/10

«Football Manager is the exemplar of an annual franchise which fans will religiously buy regardless. For many a proper data update is all they need to enjoy the game anew, leading their favoured club to glory, finding the raw talents which one day will be superstars and achieving legendary success. However Sports Interactive never rest on their laurels. They always move things forward, looking to define the genre once more and make the new edition of their beloved series the best one ever. This year Sports Interactive have done that with aplomb. They’ve brought real significant pieces of gameplay to the table, refined many more and made the whole undoubtedly the sum of all its parts — or more.»

Electronic Theatre —  rating 90%

«There’s room here for every fan of the franchise, established and those which have shied away, to find something worth latching on to, and in that Sports Interactive has achieved something which so very few developers ever manage to do: built a videogame perfect for both the fans and newcomers. If you have any hours to spend when booting up Football Manager 2013, expect them all to be lost in the blink of an eye.»

«Lord knows what features Sports Interactive are going to add to next year, but rest assured ’13 is absolutely worth snapping up, especially if you’re one of the millions of gamers out there who has been left behind by this increasingly complex series.»

Digital Spy — rating 4/5

«Football Manager 2013 is not going to relinquish its crown in the football management genre any time soon. The inclusion of ‘Classic’ mode is a shred move that is sure to pay dividends, causing many old fanatics to relapse and encouraging newcomers to join the fold, but it still remains miles ahead of its competitors with its sheer level of depth, sophistication and challenge.»

MidLifeGamer — rating 9/10

«Football Manager 2013 is Sports Interactive’s finest work to date, really showing how skilled they are at listening to feedback from their community and implementing it in-game. From the small touches like your assistants comments popping up on screen as matches progress, to the larger UI and 3D match engine changes, this will definitely leave you knowing you are playing the latest, greatest and possibly the most realistic version of the UK’s favourite PC football management game. I said in my review of Football Manager 2012 that it was perfect for newcomers to the series, however, I was wrong; it’s Football Manager 2013 that really nails it, offering something new and substantial for players of all levels, and hopefully finally shedding its tag as a complicated Excel spreadsheet.»

«Sports Interactive continue their march towards the perfect management sim. Essentially a game over 20 years in the making and one which offers an unparalleled management experience.»

Mature Gaming — rating 5/5

«Football Manager 2013 is introducing a lot of features that people have wanted for a while without sacrificing any of its level of depth. In fact Sports Interactive has done the opposite and expanded that level of depth in the main game even more to make the simulation even more realistic. It would be unfair to finish this review without saying that Football Manager 2013 is a significant improvement on last year’s iteration and a large part of that is the FM Classic mode which ideally will allow you to experience the full Football Manager experience without the huge time sink that has been required previously. It is ideal for those that have kids and jobs yet desire to get back into the game in a meaningful way. Sports Interactive are truly masters at their craft, and this year is no exception.»
