Football Manager 2010 Patch 10.3 Out Now!

written by Johnny Karp

Finally, the new patch has been released. It’s the last patch for Football Manager 2010, here are the details and the download links:

For those of you that have installed and are running your game through Steam, it will auto-update the next time you turn it on. For everyone else you’ll have to download from links below. Remember, if you are running via the DVD you’ll need the ‘Boxed’ version, if you are running from a digitally downloaded version of the game you’ll need the ‘Digital’ version.

Do not manually download and try and patch Steam, as said Steam will auto-update, and patching it otherwise could corrupt the game.

      Have a safe trip Kevin!

    Just finished reading through the huge list of match engine updates. Looks like it’s resolved a few of the little irritations I had. First match after patch will be Man United at home, so that should be fun. Will certainly be test of the defensive tweaks they made to the defence.

    Do You Have To Start A New Game For This To Work?

    • http://www.footballmanagerstory.com Johnny Karp

      No, you don’t have to start a new game. Only the new database (latest transfers and such) would require a new game but you can continue your saved game without any problems.

    Hi Johnny, I have a problem with the patch. When I Update the game, it does 713 files and then says that there’s an error and that a sharing violation has occured. Do you know what’s going wrong?

  • http://www.footballmanagerstory.com Johnny Karp

    My game is installed through Steam, so it got updated automatically. Maybe you should check the SIGames forum and see if anybody else had the same problem as you.

    It’s still early after the patch is installed, but I’ve played one match against Man United, and the teams created just one clear cut chance each. It seems to have had a dramatic effect on Cardozo’s ability to get headers on target. It might just be because Man United are so good at making it so he’s always under pressure, so will only really know when we play a team where he can get into free space more often. Unfortunately they’re one of the worst teams to play, to be able to draw any good conclusions from.

    Laxeyman, that sounds like you still have something running, that shouldn’t be, or some file open somehow.

    The Ziggy, I currently have FM running, should I turn it off? Would that work?

  • http://www.footballmanagerstory.com Johnny Karp

    Laxeyman, definitely yes. Stop the game, then run the patch.

  • http://theziggy-football-manager.blogspot.com/ TheZiggy

    As Johnny said, you need to close FM down first. The reason is the patcher tries to get an exclusive lock on every file it needs to change. Any running program will stop an exclusive lock from being made on it.

    Ok guys, thanks for your help, I’ll try it again now.

    I’ve started up a new game with the new patch and I found that they’ve edited some of the younger players stats. Like Lukaku starts out with already great stats. There was a few more I found so I’m pleased by just looking at this part of the game. I just wanted to get a feel of what the new patch brought to the game and though I can’t tell any specifics on the gameplay just yet but I really enjoy the match engine and the flow it has obtained. The players seems to take better options (both passing and dribbling) going forward and I only play with a ligue 2 team in France (Caen).

    I have only played one game on the new patch, but like TheZiggy, I found it was quite boring, with very few chances at either end. I hope it won’t be like this in future games, but it seems strange that two of us had both had the same problem immediately after the release of the patch.

    • http://www.footballmanagerstory.com Johnny Karp

      I played a full month with the new patch and overall I think that it improves the game play, I guess I had both boring and spectacular games so I don’t see that as a problem.

    I have playde for about a month aswell and I’m happy with my matches. 0-0 to Nimes in the cup, won on penalties after 3 saves from my goalie. A bit shocking.

    Then 3-1 against Metz – a good game to watch.

    and 4-2 against Tours. It was 2-2 late in the game and i had a red card since the first half but i still managed to get two late goals with the counter attack mentality.

    Overall I’m very happy with the patch so far.

    Thanks for sharing your experience Majk, much appreciated.

    The match against Man United wasn’t actually boring, but definitely frustrating to watch from my viewpoint. Probably very entertaining for a neutral. The change to headers under pressure is quite marked, which should cut down the number of corners scored from headers a bit.

    I’ve played 3 more matches since then, and quite happy so far. Haven’t seen a single offside decision that’s obviously wrong. The defending looks a lot better, and weaker teams now seem less able to suddenly overwhelm you than they could before the patch. It feels just that bit more realistic.

    After its downloaded what file does it go into ?

    • http://www.footballmanagerstory.com Johnny Karp

      Sears, you just have to run the file like any installer.

  • http://theziggy-football-manager.blogspot.com/ TheZiggy

    When I downloaded the patch, the .exe extension was not put on the end of the filename, so you might have to rename the file, and add “.exe” to the end of the name.
    Not quite sure why that should be.

    Hi Johnny,

    It has been long time. I hope you are doing fine. I am really disappointed about latest patch 10.3. There are lots of irritating problems about all dead ball setups and tactical details. I hope FM will release another supplementary patch asap for recoveries. From my point of view as a loyal CMFM fan since 97, your excellent forum gives us a great opportunity to demand those recoveries from FM programmers. Example; in patch 10.2 “challenge keeper” was working fine for the corners, but now “stand on far” is working in an exaggerated manner. My DC completes a hat trick from corners. (Galatasaray; Elano corner taker, Servet stands on far post) If he can’t score, he always hits the crossbar. Scoring 3 goals against Liverpool within same corner setup is brilliant but it is unrealistic and funny. Another example, there are always two players attempting to throw the ball from touchline, why? Another example, a support player is philosophically a support player; he has to run from deep in a mixed way and try through balls more often, it is not a new discussion for every new patch, it is a football rule. (Attack has to run often, defend has to run rarely) I have dozens of example but I don’t want to take your time or disrupt the people’s joy, I hope FM will release a new patch in order to reassure the game’s continuing quality.

    Another point! Please check Alex de Souza’s (Fenerbahçe) player abilities. Yes he is a well known brazilian AMC, but not a thirty year old Maradona :)

      Hi Celal, I’m very happy to see you commenting again here. I’m OK, thanks for asking. Actually I did notice some of the things that you pointed out and I agree that we need another patch. I also noticed some unusually high memory requests from the program but that might be only on my machine. The set pieces positioning is by far the most frustrating aspect with the new patch, hopefully there will be a fix soon.

  • miqe_san

    hi,i’ve downloaded the game via torrent. can you tell me which version of the patch i have to download ? i don’t know if it’s the boxed (DVD) or digital…thanks in advance

    • http://www.footballmanagerstory.com Johnny Karp

      @miqe_san
      If it’s a pirated version it doesn’t really matter, probably it won’t work with the patch anyway.

    SO JONHY IF I RUN PATCH 1.03 ALL DOWNLOADS FROM THIS SITE WORK?

    • http://www.footballmanagerstory.com Johnny Karp

      @Soulic
      They should work, I’m using all of those files with patch 10.3

  • syamsul

    helo johnny, i hv a problem.

    after i installed patch 10.3, it kinda messes with my graphics section. senderos n wilkshere (im playing arsenal) pictures didnt come out, no matter how many times i reloaded(off skin cache) n putting the facepack smwhere else (but still within my graphics folder). the same also with the whole of deportivo and atletico madrid team. it works just fine with previous version.

    does anyone hv this problem? u hv any suggestion? it irritated me so much bcos i downloaded a huge database of graphics but it didnt come out.

    • http://www.footballmanagerstory.com Johnny Karp

      @Syamsul
      I can’t really tell what happened there. Maybe some files got deleted or overwritten when you installed the patch. Maybe you should try to remove all the graphics and then install them over again from scratch.
