Since I can’t randomly pick a reader to receive the prize I thought about organizing a contest and since the World Cup is going to start in around the month it will be the perfect occasion. Let me explain how the contest will work:
When the World Cup will finally begin I will make a post every day with the matches that will be played that day. Each one of you can then post their match predictions in the comments. Those should be posted before the beginning of each game, obviously. Here’s an example:
England vs USA 1 (2-1), where 1 means that England will win and 2-1 the exact score. If you get the right result you will be given one point. If you’re good enough to predict the exact score you will be given 5 points. Then we’ll keep track of all the points and at the end of the World Cup the reader who has the most points will win the prize. I will take part in the contest too, I wouldn’t want to miss all the fun, but if I will have the most points at the end of it (I doubt it though) then the second placed will get the prize.
That’s how I thought to organize the thing but the reason I’m posting this now is because I want you to give me feedback and suggestions about the rules, I’m sure they are not perfect and I hope we can make them better before the actual start of the contest.

Hi Johnny
Great idea, simple rules but effective. You may want to consder a tie-breaker rule just in case as it happened in one of the pools I ran at work. For me the players involved have to guess the time of when the first goal is scored in the final. If it’s 0-0 after 120 minutes then the prize money is shared.Obviously you can do that with a game but just to put the thought in your head.
Edit: My last sentence should have said “can’t do that” instead of “can”
Nice Idea, Do I Have To Be Over 18 Though?:P
One Question, If It Said England Vs U.S.A 2, What Does That Mean?
Great idea
First though what number for a draw? Also, you could post the fixtures the day before the matches to give people time to predict. Also, in knockout rounds does the score count after 90 mins or extra time and penalties. Thanks Matt
@Kevin
Thanks for the idea, I didn’t think that two players might end up with an identical number of points. I’m going to think about it.
@Martin
That means that USA wins, X means that it will end in a draw. So it’s like this:
England vs USA 1 (England wins)
X (draw)
2 (USA wins)
And you don’t have to be over 18, I guess I can send you the game if you win even if you are under 18.
@Matthew
The first part of the answer is already given to Martin. In the knockout rounds only the score after 90 minutes will be taken into consideration. The day before sounds good, no problem.
Can we also predict the scorers for extra points…
Johnny,fantastic idea.I’ll try take part,I might not be able because my exams start around the 8th of June and last around 2 weeks I think so I doubt I can watch the first few games.Also just asking curiously,what about the time differences? Like I live in Ireland,Kevin’s in Canada,Majk is from Sweden etc.Will that not be a problem?
@Dami
It’s written in the post, 1 point for the result, 5 points for the exact score.
@Sears
I’m happy that you like it. I think I will put up the post with the matches a day before the actual games (Romanian time – GMT+2) so I think everybody will get a chance to place their predictions. And secondly, what kind of insane maniacs put exams during the World Cup?
@Dami
Sorry, I read scores instead of scorers. I think that would be too complicated but if other people like the idea I’ll figure out a way to implement it.
Great idea mate, i will definitely be involve and thanks for arranging such a wonderful contest for us.
I’ll take part
North Korea 5-0 Brazil in the final obv.
@Lye
I’m happy that you like it.
@reddevil
Good luck then!
@ravenie
That would be an audacious bet
I just won the Community shield against Everton. 4-1, was 4-0 up at half time, the team is so amazing to watch
I’m up for that
Johnny,the ‘insane manics’ who decicded to put exams during the world cup are ‘insane Irish people who believe school work is more important than the world cup’ and the ‘insane board of eduction’!The exams will be finished within 2 weeks.But i’v worse news than that…My Shahktar games was deleted when I came home after a Gaelic Football match I had. I can’t believe it!I’v written a small post about it in my blog.Its so sad!I was doing so well…. Anyway,who do you think will win the World Cup?
A great idea! I will be in the running for the prestigous first prize then
@Sears
I was joking mate, school IS more important than the World Cup! I read the post on your blog. I think that Spain will win it but it’s pretty difficult to predict.
@Ben and Majk
I’m happy that you like it, good luck in the contest!
@Ravenie
It is amazing to watch indeed and all credit must go to the players.
But Doesn’t Football Manager Come Out In November, So You’ll Send It Then/
@Martin
Of course, I won’t get a copy before the release although I’d surely love to
Hi Johnny, great idea, it will liven up an already really exciting tournament!
This is a great idea.
It will make the World Cup much more interesting.
Only problem is I am on holiday for one week of World Cup so will find it difficult to log on. I will send my predictions early for the games which I will be away for.
@Markjulian
I guess that can be done as long as your holiday is during the group stage.
Great Idea
I cant wait. very nice of you to give the prize away.
@Micheal
Thanks, it’s the least I can do to reward you for being so supportive.
I have started an FM10 game with Serie A side Udinese, I was just wondering if this could be a new blog?
@Markjulian
It could be. What I told you via email still stands though.
As it seems Deano has become a new writer, does this mean that I would be able to start a blog?
@Mark
I would appreciate if you would direct this type of comments through email. The difference is that Deano has some blogging experience as he had a football manager story blog of his own. If you want more details, you know my email address.
ok
Can you send game to outsite USA?
Cuz i am asian maf and arrange all game
@Asian maf
I can send it just about anywhere, no problem. I hope you’re joking about arranging the games
[...] randomly pick a reader to receive the prize I thought about … See the article here: Play And Win A Copy Of Football Manager 2011! | My Football … Football manager 2011, football-manager, Manager, prize, randomly-pick, receive-the-prize, [...]
great idea. I absolutely love it and i will take part !
When will the competition start and how/when is entry? I stumbled upon this website by accident and am glad I found it! I love football manager and would love to somehow get involved with football manager in any way.
@Football Nut
Thanks for your interest. The competition will start next week, a few days before the official start of the World Cup. I will publish a post with all the rules but I can tell you that you will surely be able to enter the contest like anybody else. Good luck!
Is there a way we can register our username so that no one else can use it while we participate in the contest? Otherwise people could use others’ username’s and things could get out of hand. I looked for a register button on the website but couldn’t find it.
@Riza
There is a register button but that’s not the point. I already thought about what you said, I had the same concern, so registering will be compulsory for all those who will enter the contest. There will also be some supplementary security measures but you’ll know everything about them next week.
Sounds good. I’ll be sure to register my name then. Thank you.
