Notts County Story – March 2017

Hello my friends, a new Notts County update is freshly packed and ready to go! February has been good for us overall, at least the end of it was since we managed to clinch the Carling Cup for the third time in a row. The Premier League table was looking quite alright too, Chelsea were four points behind us but we had two games in hand. Let’s see what happened in March 2017.

The first game was at home with 7th placed Fulham, one of the biggest overachievers of the season. They found themselves under heavy pressure right away though and Carlos Abad scored the opener with a powerful shot from inside the area. Fulham reacted pretty well though and went close to scoring on two occasions before half time. The second half was rather poor for both sides but luckily we had some players that were able to make a difference: Guilherme showed good vision to pick Bonetti‘s run and the tiny Italian winger slotted it home to give us the win.

Next up, the FA Cup quarter final with Burnley. Everybody expected us to win the game and Sam Hinshelwood made things clear right from the start as he headed home a pinpoint cross from Fabian Delph. The game was fairly quiet as a result of that early goal, Burnley were not coming forward and my players didn’t seem to determined to score again. We did that a bit later in the second half, Sam Hinshelwood was brought down inside the box and Joe Barton converted the penalty kick. We were through to the semi final where Chelsea were waiting for us.

Back to the Premier League then, we had to travel to White Hart Lane to meet struggling 17th placed Tottenham. The Spurs were having a dismal season, I felt quite sorry for them because I have some sympathy for this team since a couple of Romanians played there during the 1990′s. Anyway, this Tottenham only survived to hear the half time whistle. In the second half Andrea Romano and Sergio Aguero transformed the pitch into their own playground, they did whatever they wanted with Tottenham‘s defenders. Simon Kjaer completed the rout with a corner kick header, a nice afternoon for The Magpies.

The next game was the second leg of the Champions League tie with Celtic. We won the first leg 5-1 so I chose to rest most of the important players for the future challenges. Celtic scored an early goal and that gave them some hope of having a magical night but my boys slowly took control of the game and could even have won it in the second half. It ended with a draw, enough to get through to the next round.

We were drawn against Chelsea in the quarter finals, it would have been nice to see only English teams in the semi finals fm 2012 icon smile Go to the next page to read the rest of the story.

  1. Hi Johnny
    It’s too bad your month ended with that draw against Chelsea but I feel your team as enough depth of character to see you through in the return leg. What a total demolition of Liverpool, that must have been fun to watch and also you hammered Spurs once again. Great job.
    By the way your other article is excellent as well.Is this a new (real)career?

  2. Thanks Kevin. That Liverpool game was unbelievable, I was all smiles :) And thanks for the comment about the article. It’s not a new career yet, I’m just trying my hand at this. I’ll see how it goes and then I might go for it full time.

  3. Hi Johnny, another great month, particularly the thrashing of Liverpool, that made me quite sad as a Reds fan, but good to see your team playing so well. Unlucky against Chelsea, but like Kevin, I think you’ve still got a good chance. The other article is good, maybe you’ll take up sports writing? Strangely enough I’ve thought about it myself as a career when I’m older… Good luck against Chelsea.

  4. Good Results Especially The Liverpool Thrashing But Your Players Will Have To Keep Their (Virtual) Selves Focussed To Grab All The Glory Available.
    The Article’s Good, I Hope We Can Come Out Victorious, But It Should Be Tough!
    By The Way, Remember My 1st FM Game As Charlton, Well, I’m Starting As Them Again On The 10.3 Patch.
    I’ve Signed Quite A Few Players, Defenders Francis Dickoh And Craig Cathcart On Loan, Also Fabrice Muamba And Marlon Harewood On Loan, Remi Fournier(£180k) Thomas Dossevi(65k) Paul Smith (150k) Craig Conway (250k) And Finally A Youngster From Universitatea Craiova Called Mihai Costea, The Younger Brother Of Florin Costea (6CapsForRomania) From The Same Club.
    He Has Scored 10 In 11, I Love Him Already. We Are Top With 21 Points In 8 Games Also.

  5. @Laxeyman
    Thanks mate, I’m a bit afraid of the Chelsea game to be honest, they are very strong. Judging by your writing skills and your passion for football I think it would be a good career for you, I was dreaming about doing that when I was your age too. And I might at some point, who knows…
    @Martin
    Thanks for the feedback. You signed quite a few quality players there, Mihai is a great talent in real life but he still has to grow up, he’s too moody and lacks consistency. His older brother is already an established player in Romania, top goalscorer in the league two seasons in a row. Now he’s badly injured though, out for 8 months, and relegation looks like a distinct possibility for my beloved Craiova.

  6. The highlight of the month is definitely the match against Liverpool. It will be difficult in the second leg in stamford Bridge but i have full confidence in your team. Glad to see you testing your writing skills as a sports writer, hope to see more often though:)

  7. Thanks Lye, I have confidence too but it will still be a very tough test. About the writing, I’m going to do a match review on Liverpool vs Chelsea on the same website today ;)

  8. You have a massive game against Chelsea next month and they will be looking for revenge in the carling cup as the match will be really interesting. I cannot wait for the next post.

  9. Good luck Johnny, am sure the league is yours being 10 points clear,
    but that away goal could be costly. 94 minutes!! :)

  10. @Warren
    Thanks mate. I care more about the Champions League game than the FA Cup one to be honest but I surely hope we’ll be able to win both of them.
    @Ana
    Thanks for the good luck wish, we might need a lot of that at Stamford Bridge…

  11. Beating Liverpool 7-1 is one hell of a accomplishment for notts county. In my arsenal game im targeting Ryan Harley from Exeter City and Sergio Romero from AZ
