After three straight league wins in September we were preparing for the fourth, we had 19th placed Port Vale coming at Meadow Lane. I tried a more aggressive version of my 4-4-2 tactic and it produced quite a few chances to score but also great chances for Port Vale to counter attack. We missed a few good chances again but fortunately we managed to score just enough to get the three points.

The tactical experiments were almost over, in the last game of the month I used the tactic that I will probably use throughout the season. The game was away at 23rd placed Lincoln, one of our rival teams. I was pleased with the team’s performance but I was concerned that we missed a few easy chances to score again, my strikers seemed overconfident! Anyway, once we score the first goal it’s tough for any team in the league to beat us, we are very quick on counter attacks and more and more reliable at the back.

Seyfo Soley picked up a knock during the game and he’s going to be out for around 7 weeks, I guess we’ll miss him a bit. We were top of the table at the end of September but 2nd placed Bury had a game in hand.

The player that I’d like to single out this month is versatile midfielder Ben Davies, he’s a treasure for this team. He plays very well as a right or left winger or as a central midfielder and he had a good season so far, scored 3 goals and made 5 assists. He is my jolly joker, I move him around the pitch a lot during certain games. He made his debut in professional football back in 1998 with Stoke, in League One. He never found his place since then, changed a lot of teams in his career and never went higher than a season in Coca-Cola Championship. He played a lot of seasons in League Two and I hope to give him the opportunity to play at least one minute in the Premier League.

We’ll have a few difficult games in October, especially with 5th placed Crewe and 3rd placed Shrewsbury but I hope to keep the unbeaten record.

  1. Well done mate..You should be dominating the league 2 quite easily. Go something further be the invincible in league 2. I wish to see that, it will a record.

  2. I’m sure that you will be promoted, Bury is only who can be better than you…
    I hope that you won’t have long time injures like with Soley..
    I don’t have too much time to play my favourite game because I must study this week and probably next so I’ll try to read your post every day and if I’ll have time post on forum results and tactics..

  3. Well done I wonder if you can set a record

    • @Eddie
      Thanks mate, I’ll think about records only after gaining promotion, then we’ll see…
      @Goran
      Good luck with the exams you have, you’ll have plenty of time to play FM after those :)
      @Curt
      Welcome back mate! :)

  4. You have probably the best team in the league, however you’re showing consistency even with a not well gelled squad, so you’re doing a great work!

    • Thanks Paine, I hope to keep consistent results until December, then the team will probably play even better.

  5. Good work lad,

    Im with notts county at the moment as well. Currently fourth in League One in my second season. For all reading this, a must is to buy Jordan Rhodes from Huddersfield. He cost me 800k but he is in great goalscoring form. Also take a look at free transfers. Theres plenty of bargains in that market. Also Kevin Phillips, he has scored 12 goals in the last 10 appearances for me.

    Hope this helps anyone.

    See if you can get a record, I finished on a lovely 100 points which I was happy with.
